Horty Springer & Mattern was founded in 1971 and is the first law firm to devote its practice exclusively to health law and health organizations and to take an active role in national health care policy, education and publishing. The firm works with hospitals, health systems, other health providers, HMOs and managed care organizations in all fifty states. They have been awarded the best lawyers/law firms designation by U.S. News & World Report every year since 2011, and in 2019 received the Law Firm Innovator Award from Legal Intelligence. Some eighteen months prior to the expiration of their office lease for space they had occupied since 1976, they turned to Carrie to identify and negotiate their most attractive lease arrangement.

Action

After conducting a needs analysis, Carrie assembled the best in class team to design the space and manage construction. She then prepared a market survey of viable availabilities, toured buildings in downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland with HSM, sent RFPs to buildings selected for further consideration, prepared a financial analysis and comparison of proposals, had test fit plans prepared and priced, leveraged the market so that landlords competed for HSM’s occupancy, negotiated business terms at multiple buildings, identified the best space, and secured attractive lease terms.
